You can’t get this flavor profile anywhere else! The typica variety is grown in various coffee growing regions all over the world, yet this western coastal upslope region of the big island produces a truly unique and singular product. I don’t have the skills to best describe what this coffee delivers. The beans smell rich and wonderful, and this gets even better and more pronounced when those beans are freshly ground.
The taste in the cup is all Kona! Again, words fail, but as a New Englander I am reminded of a sweet delicious syrupy experience. It’s reminiscent of Maple Syrup - not that it’s actually sweet, not that there’s any actual maple flavor, it’s just delicious and puts me in mind of that most pleasant and familiar flavor experience.
Finally, the roast: my bag of Hula Daddy Kahiko Kona Typica is marked as a dark roast, however, these beans are far from a traditional dark roast experience. I don’t appreciate over roasted, over caramelized beans that yield an ash taste in the cup. These are not that! The roast is perfect, the beans dark but without hint of over roasted charr. The nuance of the wonderful Kona profile is intact and vibrant.
Try these 100% Kona beans if you can. I do love this coffee!!
